Abstract

Effect of exogenous applications of the normal steroid hormone, testosterone prepionate, on the male Libistes reticulatus (Peters) were examined. Emphasis was on the behavioral modifications and color aberrations induced. Preliminary work indicates that testosterone propionate has a feminizing effect on the guppy or may interfere with hypophysical functioning. Sexual inversion has previously been demonstrated only in cichlid fish, Drodeles, and representatives from the Ranidae and Hylidae families.
