Description

Abstract

Extracellular and intracellular secondary metabolites were extracted from w different cultures of Penicillium, isolated mostly from rust galls on lodgepole and ponderosa pine in Montana. Extracts containing the fungal metabolites were applied to silica-gel thin layer chromatography strips by blotting agar plugs from mycelial cultures. Chromatograms were developed with appropriate solvents in chromatography chambers. The chromatograms were then viewed under normal light and ultraviolet light at wavelengths of 254 nm and 366 nm. Standard literature was used to identify the metabolites. Results show that new metabolites as well as some previously reported metabolites are produced by these Montana Penicillium isolates.
