Abstract

The methods of isolating human and rat large granular lymphocytes were reviewed, and revised to accommodate horse lymphocytes. Purified populations of large granular lymphocytes were then stimulated with Interleukin-2 and Concanavalin-A, to observe effects on proliferation and cytotoxic activity. The results of this study suggest that large granular lymphocytes can be purified from the peripheral blood of horses, using a percoll density gradient. Also, Interleukin-2 is shown to have an effect on proliferation of enriched populations of large granular lymphocytes, especially when added in adjunct to Concanavalin-A.
