Abstract

Objective: To review literature on the effects of ketamine for patients with chronic PTSD. Methods: Literature was obtained from PubMed and CINAHL with a search for ketamine infusions on PTSD patients. Results: A majority of the literature supported the intervention of ketamine infusions to relieve PTSD symptoms. Studies showed that ketamine was an improvement over other therapies and in comorbid disorders. Conclusion: Ketamine infusions showed significant relief for those with chronic PTSD. Studies reviewed should be used to further research ketamines on mental health disorders and any negative side effects. Ketamine should be introduced as a new therapy for patients with PTSD.
