Abstract

The goal of this project was to analyze depictions of U.S. borders in recent, post 9/11 news media. This study analyzed the language, themes, and ethnic identifiers used to refer to the borders and the issues and people associated with them through a content analysis of media articles. The results of this project concluded that there remain differences between how the Northern and Southern borders are referred to in the news media through the border identified, the themes associated with each border, and the ethnic-based identifiers used to refer to immigrants themselves.
