Abstract
The bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) virus causes bovine viral diarrhea-mucosal disease (BVD-MD). Bovine fetal epithelial cell cultures of the lung tissue (EBL), kidney tissue (EBK), endothelium of the heart (EBEH), cornea tissue (EBC), turbinate cells (EBT), spleen tissue (EBSP), intestinal villi (EBI) and skin tissue (EBSK) were tested for their susceptibility to the BVD virus. The serial titers of the BVD virus used for the inoculation of the cells were from 10'® to 10"®. The degree of susceptibility was the greatest in the EBI and the EBEH at a degree of 5.14 for both. The EBL showed a degree of susceptibility of 5.12 with the EBSP at 5.00, the EBT at 4.50, the EBK at 4.43, the EBC at 3.67, and the EBSK at 3.6. The results showed a definite variance in the degree of susceptibility of various embryonic bovine cell cultures to the BVD virus.
