Abstract

This analysis examines the imposition of Western and foreign ideologies and practices in environmental stewardship and natural resource management which have marginalized indigenous populations and worldviews, portraying them as inferior and seeking to replace them through neocolonial policies and thought. The chronic hegemonic imbalance of power that favors western ideologies is in constant conflict with autochthonous indigenous traditions, sparking social uprisings aimed at rejecting western dominance and reclaiming traditional cultural practices. By exploring historical context, particularly in Latin America, I argue that the persistent pressure of neocolonialism fuels these social uprisings as Indigenous communities fight to revitalize and preserve their cultures and identities while remodelling western globalization.
