Abstract

Objective. To review relevant literature concerning the effects of aquatic/pool therapies on motor function in pediatric cerebral palsy patients. Methods. Literature was gathered from PubMed, CINAHL, and Google Scholar to assess the impact of aquatic/pool therapies on motor function in pediatric cerebral palsy patients. Results. Aquatic/pool therapies were consistently found to be effective not only improving motor function, but also aerobic capacity in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy. Enjoyment of associated therapies was also increased in one study. Conclusions. Aquatic/pool therapies in pediatric cerebral palsy patients are associated with a greater improvement in motor function when used in addition to traditional land therapies.
