    Title
    Anchor Hill Pit Transfer System
    Abstract
The goal of our project was to design a transfer system to remove water from the Anchor Hill Pit located on the Gilt Edge Mine in South Dakota to a nearby water treatment plant. The project was designated as a Superfund site, meaning that a federal mandate was issued to clean up the area due to contamination and hazards presented to the environment. Within our design we have chosen HDPE for our pipeline material and a self-priming centrifugal pump mounted on a barge that floats in the middle of Anchor Hill Pit. It has enough power to pump the water from the pit up and over the rise in elevation, then gravity takes over and runs the water downhill to the water treatment plant. For bedding material and backfill, we chose to use native soil located on the mine for efficiency and cost effectiveness. The total cost for our design came out to be $544,400. Our hope is that this design will be sufficient to reduce the amount of contaminated water in the pit, satisfy EPA goals, and positively impact the environment and Lawrence
