    Title
Knowing Oneself Through God: Psychoanalyzing the Conversion of St. Augustine
    Abstract
In many ways, St. Augustine’s "Confessions" resembles the stories of the patients Freud describes in his "Five Lectures of Psychoanalysis." Does Augustine’s religious conversion reinforce the benefits of Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis? Can conversion or faith constitute psychical damage or psychotherapy?
