Description
Abstract
We undertook this study to determine the immunoaccessibility of VD III of the major outer membrane protein (MOMP) of Chlamydia trachomatis. We used western blot, ELISA, and immunodot blot techniques to elucidate this characteristic of VD III. Using polyclonal, monospecific antibody developed to synthetic polypeptides, we demonstrated that VD III is not accessible to antibody in vitro. We also report the cross reactivity patterns of antiserum raised to three different serotypes of Chlamydia trachomatis. These cross reactivities will conceivably help to determine which variable domain sequences could be used in a subunit or recombinant vaccine candidate.
