The purposes of this work ares a) to determine the stability constants for complexes of thiourea and methylthiourea with cadmium (II) ion by applying a definite correction factor to the best existing determination (1); and b) to explain the results on the basis of accepted theories (2).
The experimental information was obtained from the Ph.D. thesis of Ryan (1), who used thiourea and 1-methyl-2-thiourea as complexing agents. The solvent system used was 50% dioxane-50% water, (% by volume). Where ligand solubilities permitted, similar data were obtained from studies involving aqueous systems for comparative purposes.
